There are a number of different ways in which departments can make their own contributions to this study. The contributions can be part of the normal coursework, and can be integrated into the curriculum, without any sacrifices being made with regard to the learning objectives. The normal educational learning obejctives can still be met, by using components of the Tenerife Project. It is not intended to replace 'normal' teaching. It is designed to be a unique opportunity for development of teaching and learning styles, developing cross-curriculum links, and developing a greater awareness of global issues, and cultural diversity.

Science : Flora/Fauna on the island. Renewable
Energy Study (Wind farm(s) and Solar Energy. Ecology and the influence/effect
of the growth in tourism. National Parks and
Information Technology : Electronic communication systems , including the Internet as a means of linking with the island and its schools. Impact on education on Tenerife.
Technology : Wind Generators and Solar Energy (jointly with Science).
Modern Languages : Language study : E-Mail links with Tenerife Schools
English : Spanish Literature, linked to Tenerife/Canary Islands. E-Mail communication with students/teachers on the island, and other schools having similar interests.
Physical Education : Sports on Tenerife (spoilt for choice !)
Sociology : Study of the interaction between different communities on the island
Economics : Decline of Banana trade...increase of Service Industry / Tourism
Art : Photos of Tenerife. Cultural infuences from Africa, Europe and Latin America.
Mathematics : Flight times, speed, distances. Maths related to sporting activities.
History : Spanish 'conquest' . English/Spanish conflict. The Nelson connection. The General Franco connection. Columbus's visit, at the time of a volcanic eruption (Teide)
Geology/Geography : Geological origin of the island . Volcanic structures. The Atlantis theory. Climatic variation from North to South. Growth of the tourist industry in the South of the island. New Airport : its effect on international tourism in the late 1970's. Water supply and desalination projects.
These are meant to be starting points for different subject areas. Some of these 'starters' provide ideal opportunities for cross-curriculum development.
