The cost of running the Internet at North Chadderton
can be divided into the following areas:
1. Connection through the Internet Service Provider (ISP)
This is currently £120, paid yearly , by the school.
2. Modem
The cost of the modem was £100, a one-off payment.
We have plans to upgrade the present modem to 33.6 kB/s
(fastest available speed) from our , rather slow, 14.4 kB/s
speed. This will reduce online costs, by increasing the rate
of transfer of information.
3. Online (telephone) costs
We use a local telephone call rate , for all connections.
At the moment each department is being charged 3p a minute (!)
However,we have plans to reduce this cost ,and to allow almost
unlimited access , for all. departments and individuals.
Students who have been given permission to use the Internet
connection will normally have the online cost paid for by the department.
Staff and students must agree to the the Acceptable User
Policy (AUP),
before using the Internet.
