The school curriculum is organised to fulfill the requirements of the National
Curriculum
and follows L.E.A. guidelines for its schools.
The school is divided into two halves.Within each half-year, designated N
and C,
pupils are usually taught in mixed-ability groups , or in sets according
to ability.

Combined Science is studied in Years 7-9 .The main resource used for science
is
Spotlight Science.Pupils attend science lessons three lessons a week .
The emphasis is on a module approach , set on a number of themes,
Each module lasts for approximately 6 weeks.Significant emphasis is placed
on
the interactive nature of Science,Technology and Society.
The Faculty places a strong emphasis on the use of IT within science.
The IT facilities within Science are made available for whole-school use,and
the
Computer Club , supporting all areas of the curriculum, has proved to be
a great success.
All pupils study Drama as part of their English course in Years 7 and 8.
Drama is offered at both GCSE and A-level. The school has a long and
successful history of productions and is noted for its Stage Society.
All pupils are taught the principles of Information Technology in Years 7
and 8.
Pupils are given opportunities to use these skills in a wide range of subjects
through
Years 7 to 11. GCSE and A-Level may be studied by those wishing to
specialise
in this area.
Technology involves identifying and solving problems through 'design and
make ' tasks.
All pupils experience a range of Technology areas which include : Graphics,
Fabrics, Wood,
metal, Plastics and Electronics/Computer Control.
Modern Languages
French or German or Spanish is taught in Years 7 and 8.
Parents are asked to choose in advance and all pupils are given the
opportunity
to study a second foreign language in Year 9 , before final option choices
for Year 10.
Music
All pupils have the opportunity to learns to play electronic keyboards and
sing in
the classroom. In addition, instrumental tuition is available in guitar,
string, woodwind,
percussion and brass instruments.
Religious Education
Religious Education is provided for all pupils in all years.
Sex Education
Sex Education is included within the framework of the form period,
Personal and Social Education and Religious Education in all years,
as part of the health education programme .
Sex Education is also within the scope of departments, such as Science.
Outside speakers are arranged where appropriate.
Drugs education is also included within this framework,
as part of a whole school policy.
