In Year 9, students are offered a choice of courses for study in Years 10 and 11. The subjects are arranged in groups from which pupils may choose.
Pupils are guided in their decisions over subject choices by several methods and stages. A Prospectus of Year 10 and 11 courses is published with a description of each subject, its aims and its examinations requirements. An "Options Afternoon" is held in the early Spring which gives an opportunity for pupils to talk to subject staff about options, especially new subjects.
In additions to the Year 9 Progress Evening, a special evening is set aside for parents to discuss choices with staff.
Finally, each pupil, guided by the form, teacher, fills in an option form.
