The Sixth Form

In the Sixth form we have the following aims :

(i) To maintain a 'wide access' to the Sixth form, where entry qualifications depend on the type of course to be followed.

(ii) To offer courses that suit varying needs and present a range of choice :

• a one-year course leading to an Intermediate GNVQ;
• traditional two-year courses to A-level and AS-level for entry to the profession or higher education ;
• traditional two-year courses to A-level and AS-level for entry to the professions or higher education ;
• two-year courses that combine A, AS, and GCSE level resits., 'tailor-made ' for the individual .

(iii) To encourage academic achievement of the highest standard.

(iv) To balance specialism with a programme of General Studies and Leisure Pursuits.

(v) To provide personal guidance and counselling in careers, further/higher education and life skills.

(vi) To develop independence of learning and effiecient use of private study time

(vii) To encourage each student to work to the best of his/her ability and to identify with the values expected by the school.

The A and A/S Level courses on offer are : Art, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Design, Drama, Economics, English ( Language and Literature combined) , English Language, English Literature, French, Geography, Geology, General Studies, German, Government and Politics, History, Information technology, Pure Maths with Statistics, Pure Maths with Mechanics, Further maths, Pure and Applied Maths, Music, Physics,  Psychology, Religious Studies, Science and Technology in Society, Sociology, Spanish, Theatre Studies.
