Wind-Powered Generation of Electricity

The location of ITER is ideally suited for wind-powered generation. The land covers an area of 365,000 square metres. It has a high average wind speed of  7.5 m/s . There is a experimental platform, where new turbines are tested and developed. The average energy output is 7 MWh. There is also a wind park, consisting of 30 wind turbines, of  300 kW each. There are two other wind park areas , one consisting of 11 wind turbines  of 500 kW of power each. It is connected to the electrical grid for the island.  Another development consisting of Enercon wind turbines between 5000 and 1 MW nominal power.

All these photographs were taken at the Institute for Renewable Energy, (ITER), Parque Eolico de Granadilla, Tenerife, Canary Islands. This is the technological walkway area, an interactive exhibit area showing the potential for renewable energy resources on Tenerife, and other local islands. A photovoltaic solar cell array is located on the roof of the headquarters.
the area covered is 210 square metres, giving an annual production of 61 MWh of electrical energy.
