You might have noticed the absence of updates here for the last few months.
A lot has been happening on our other websites, which are all flourishing.
The Global Community
Zone is receiving some amazing hits each week. As I write this, there
are over 111 visitors visiting our website now. It is not unusual these days
to find over 200 visitors at any time. We are also involved in an exciting
new development in Science Educations, known as 21st Century Science. It
is a new GCSE course, and it is the result of a collaboration between the
The Nuffield Foundation,
The University of York,
and The Oxford, Cambridge and RSA
Examinations. Approximately 50 schools in the UK are embarking
upon a Pilot Course, starting in September 2003. Our own online development
is intended to support students and teachers at North Chadderton School,
as we embark upon a two year pilot course. As a school, we have no attachments
to publishers, or commercial ventures. All our resources on this website
have been generated and developed by teachers and students at our school.
Other students and teachers are free to download, modify and use the
resources for their own non-profit educational applications.
Our online support zone for this new course is at
www.21stcenturyscience.org.uk/support/
. This website is intended only for those schools who will be embarking upon
21st Century Science. All resources will be generated by students and teachers
at our school. These resources are to be considered 'Open Source' , and will
be released under the Open Zone, for other students and teachers to use.
No other resources will be available on this website.
Another new North Chadderton website is being developed which will provide
the latest updates and news in the topics to be studied in 21st Century Science
. This website is located at

Goodness....so much has been done in the last three months! You might
not notice much on this website, but you will certainly notice a difference
on our Global Community
Website, where the emphasis has been to extend learning and understanding
beyond the 'confines' of a classroom, and to embrace the concept of Global
Citizenship. The real icing on the cake has been the recognition by
the National Grid for Learning for
our work! To be on their homepage over the Christmas holidays has been
a real bonus, and we are proud to be able to contribute to this exciting
venture. We need to recognise and applaud the
Open Source Community for
providing free resources to develop the website. Make no mistake,
Open Source Software is here to stay, and many educational communities will
be able to benefit from these fabulous resources, developed by a global
community of people who are willing to share their work with others. |

Well, during the last few months we have moved on
by quantum leaps.
We are now developing Content Management Websites. The focus is very
clearly on "Students helping students to
learn.." We have adopted the very best
technology available, including the installation of
PostNuke and
phpNuke Content Management Systems. Both of these
require PHP scripting language facilities, and
MySQL database installations on the
webservers. The most amazing revelation is that
these superb systems have been developed by
groups of kind souls who provide the scripts and systems FREE
to users. All administration of the system is done online, through the browser.
Each module or section is chosen by clicking on an icon,
then the administrator can update/change virtually
any aspect of the website through the browser. Want to see some of the latest
developments.? No problem, just click on any of
the following links, but bear in mind that they will always be under development!
